Brief 4:
Kinetic Typography

In my media selection I used an audio sequence from a Manga series “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure”, imported in to After Effects, originally the sample was over 60 seconds long. Placing the markers was time consuming, namely due to two factors. Firstly this was a new software platform to me, and therefore I learning as I built the sequence up. Secondly some of the audio is spoken quite quickly with short gaps between which added to the complexity of capturing the word peaks- starts.

I tried to vary the font, size and placement of the text to make it more interesting to the viewer and to understand the software platform more. I used animation such as motion blue, text shake, sweep in and out as well as grid structure placements.

I also made the decision to add a floating “artefact” by means of a character related card in line with the text character reference. This sweeps in from left to right in a form of 3d spin. I made a conscious decision to shorten the clip to just over 00:30:00 for two reasons, the speed of the audio made the level of work required quite detailed, from a time management perspective I felt this needed a review- edit. Secondly, I felt it could have become a bit repetitive and filling the time rather than proving a basic underlying competence with the software. I think it’s important to manage time and the structure of a brief as I move forward through my degree, and hopefully a career.
