Putting some of the lenses in to practice. Below are still images from my short practice film shoot using a selection of lenses ( no colour grade applied as they are test shots).
Up first is the 24mm,
Benefits
Wider shots: Capture an entire scene, mimic how eyes travel, and create point of view (POV) shots.
Low light performance: Sufficient in low light conditions.
Lightweight and compact: Ideal for gimbal or drone work.
Linear focus or fly by wire: Preferable for manual focus in videography.
Stunning and dramatic perspective: Makes work look cinematic without heavy post-processing.
Next is the 50mm
Sometimes referred to as the the "nifty fifty" , which means it's quite versatile and captures a good range of footage
The 50mm lens is a "go-to lens" for photographers and videographers
This lens is incredibly versatile.
50mm lenses approximate the field of view of the human eye.
Composition and Framing. Take a few steps forward or backwards to alter.
The 50mm is great for capturing all those candid moments of interaction
Followed by the 85mm.
Benefits of a 85mm
Shallower depth of field: The 85mm lens allows for a shallower depth of field, which can create a beautiful bokeh effect.
Low-light performance: The wide aperture (often f/1.4) of an 85mm lens excels in low-light situations.
Portraits and events: The lens is ideal for capturing stunning portraits and events.
Incorporating background: The 85mm lens encourages incorporating the background into compositions.
Fixed focal length: Unlike zoom lenses, the 85mm lens has a fixed focal length
And finally , the 24-100mm.
This was the "stock" lens on the hire camera that was then " random" in my choice of lenses.
However and entirely by accident , I found it quite interesting with it's focus and field of view, you cant get an atmospheric result of near or far objects being ion focus, a Bokeh effect.
Obviously it's a zoom lens so has a degree of versatility about it by default, however the benefits are:-
Versatility: Zoom lenses allow adjustment of focal length within a certain range, making them versatile and convenient for covering different focal lengths without switching lenses.
Commonly used: Lenses with focal lengths between 20mm and 100mm are common in video production,
Good overall lens: A 24-100mm lens would be a great overall choice for event video work.
