So the team and I, our own Fab Four, have set about working through creating a geo located sound experience.
I’m here….tell me something about….!
We had to work within defined parameters of ><5 minute audio walk, and arguably ensure a level of interest remains in it.
I live 10 minutes away from Penny Lane, immortalised in the Beetles song, admittedly not my personal genre but I suspect many of us have heard aspects of this song. This is location and song is what came to mind after a fair bit of discussion and seemed like a good choice.
"Why choose this":-
It actually gets tourists so may be of interest if published publically
There are key points in the lyrics that exist today, and the Geo Walk can be planned within the brief parameters
They are reasonably located for the team to attend if and when required
It was harder than what it was initially anticipated, even thinking about how to structure the content before accessing the software which would be totally us as a group!
It wasn’t a “Hard Day’s Night” to get to an outline structure of what our content could be, we did have to “Help” each other. But the draft outline did eventually “Come Together”…..I’ll stop with the googled references to the songs now..!
This sets the basis of “I’m Here”
“Tell me something about…!” Where to start…
So the approach is simple and clean with regard to prepping for the Geo Walk’s content. A quick Google of the Lyrics provided the “locations” via Lyrics – verse and print them off
Now on to google maps, and try to identify what matches with the Lyrics- verse, one location with the lyrics referencing a “Banker on the corner” needed a bit more research to clarify which corner ( assuming the banker is outside a bank) as the buildings architecture both left and right looking up from Penny Lane looked similar to older banks!
Fan pages etc. helped identify which building, which actually become obvious as upon closer inspection.
A printed copy of the lyrics, Google Maps and a Highlighter allowed four positions to be selected that could be walked in any order within the brief parameters.
The second part of “tell me something” is to think about what to say- script creation. My preferences is a conversational style of narration interlaced with the facts rather than a verbal download of data.
The lyrics, fan pages etc. all provide the underpinning research content. The key bit was narrowing it down to being just enough “fact”, it’s actually not that easy and did take a few attempts and re-writes.
I suspect over time both I and the team will get slicker at this and reduce re-writes. I don’t think re-writes are an issue / bad thing but I do think I can get over critical and cause myself work and a loss of time by constantly chasing a word or two here and there. The outcome of each re-write wasn't to dissimilar to the previous version. Therefore, I personally question if the re-writes actually aded value overall...who knows?
In a few blogs time, we’ll take you on your very own “ Magical Mystery Tour”!
PS….sorry I promised earlier that I’d stop with the cheesy references… I actually don’t even know the songs I'm quoting……Google has been my friend here!
