It’s good to talk!
This was way..way... harder than I first thought, we’d decided on a topic and written a script to follow to keep Podcast as fluid and as conversational as possible. We as a team didn’t want it to feel forced or to ramble on, we wanted it to stick to the script, feel genuine, and have something that a person would want to listen to.
Quality before Quantity
Doing a bit of background research as well as reviewing my course materials I came across Riverside FM (www.riverside.fm). They offer 15 steps to making a successful Podcast, which are:-
1. Choose your topic wisely
2. Make quality a priority
3. Learn from professionals
4. Try Live streaming
5. Invest in equipment
6. Use professional recording software
7. Don’t skip editing
8. Stay Consistent
9. Know the market
10. Work with other creators
11. Actively seek Sponsorship
12. Don’t forget SEO
13. Add Video Content
14. Market your content on social media
15. Listen to your audience
This is our first Podcast, so the full 15 don’t apply but some do. I am fortunate enough to have access to industry processionals (3) from within the University, access to high end equipment (5), professional recording software (6) and editing software (7). Riverside FM (2023):-
“Producing quality audio can help your podcast appear more professional”
Two lads and a Mic!
Having a conversation with someone doesn’t take much thinking about, it just happens but put a Mic in to the mix and for me it changes a lot. I found myself aware of it, I think my co-host did too, and it’s probably one of those things that over time- practice becomes more natural.
Content overload…..
I am getting to the view where, retakes are natural and too much content is better than too little in most cases. A consequence of this is that production edits take longer or maybe it’s the required time, at this stage I can’t say for certain
The benefit of too much content are:-
· Prevents you going back to the set
· Allows you to be critical of the content
· Provides enough to carefully construct the Podcast
Riverside FM (2023):-
“When you edit your podcast before publishing new episodes, you can ensure that you're sharing your best work. The editing process is also an opportunity to cut unnecessary content, allowing your broadcast to focus on a few key messages.”
